Last night, Feb. 25, 2020, the Marathon/Tesoro Los Angeles Refinery in Carson / Wilmington erupted into a major fire after multiple explosions and a giant fireball:
• The major fire was seen shooting into the sky, with black smoke that could even be seen at night. (A reduced fire was still seen burning this morning, Feb. 26th.) The original explosion was seen as far away as Fullerton (about 25 miles). This is the largest refinery on the West Coast, and its major expansion was protested by thousands, and contested in court.

We hope that the Administration continues to work with frontline communities to act as quickly as possible to create transformative solutions commensurate with these crises.

Workshop in Wilmington that seeks to gather public input on studies focusing on phasing out fossil fuels in California.  These studies focus both on drilling and consumption of oil, which are major sources of pollution impacting our communities.

input on how California can reduce its dependency on fossil fuels both on the
demand side and the supply side.

meet fellow community leaders; environmental justice and public health
activists; concerned residents and share your ideas with the decision-makers
about the key issues that CalEPA should focus on such as the importance of
creating health and safety buffer zones around residential neighborhoods,
creating robust workforce development strategies, and planned phase out of oil
drilling and other fossil fuel operations.

This dredging project is the latest attack on California by the Trump administration and Big Oil and is part and parcel of previous attempts to expand offshore oil drilling and open public lands to oil and gas leasing.  Join us in calling on the federal representatives of this region to do everything in their power to stand with their constituents and oppose this misguided project.

August 7th, 2019- CBE, Environmental Integrity Project, and Environmental Advocates filed a notice of intent to sue the Phillips 66 Los Angeles Refinery for violations of hazardous waste disposal laws.
